Your first pair of “proper” trainers.
After years of my dad getting my brother and me Patrick trainers from Barrett’s at the age of 8 convinced him to get me some Adidas Kick, black with white lines from the small sports shop in Queens Market (not there now and can’t remember the name).

My all time favourites though a few years later were a pair of silver Nike Vandal Supreme from Rita’s on Green Street.

What about you?

I had a pair of reebok pump basketball boots. I loved playing basketball even though I was the size and shape of the ball and absolutely terrible, and the pump on the boots did absolutely nothing, but they looked ace.

Those and a hand me down pair of Nike air trainers for a mate he was one of those people who was spoilt rotten abs wore trainers about 5 times before deciding he needed new ones. Admittedly I had no clue that they were proper expensive and basically just used them at break time at school so I didn’t get in trouble for scuffing my school shoes up.

Nike white baseball boots spotted with skin tight Lee cooper denim jeans. Fuck all this 80s casual look this is what your every day headbanger wore back in the day.

Looked like a fuckin golf club and probably a twat.

Still a good look though.

Remember getting a pair of Adidas ‘rom’ one Christmas.

Was well made up.

I now own 3 pairs of C&B gazelles for some reason.

2 pairs are still in the box.

someone further down said it also: Reebok Hexalite.

I got them from Roman Road. There was a sports shop towards the end of the market called Sportique.

White & Turquoise Hexalites and a Blue Champion tracksuit... i thought i was the nuts :)

My first proper pair was Gola black with green markings & ordered out of my mums catalogue.
My next pair was the same but black and yellow.
My favourites though were my my first pair of Adidas samba which I got for Christmas (must of been about 12 at the time) I also got an orange Adidas t shirt with black stripes down the sleeve.
Funny enough my wardrobes not changed that much in 40 odd years it's just those items now are called retro & more expensive. I

I go for the cheapest decent trainer/boot, because I have never had any faith that gimmicks make you a better player.

If there's choice of colours, I go for black. Failing that, claret, light blue or white. All white a distant last.

Nike internationalists are a great trainer, had a few pairs of them, mid 80s there was a similar style in red orange and yellow that looked good.

Re: Your first pair of “proper” trainers.
My favourite ever trainers were from around 87ish

I had a pair of Nike Internationalist with the heel support

They were proper cool in a dark pink/raspberry colour which were aimed at blokes because up until then all pink trainers were the very light rose shade that all the girls wore.

I still think of how good they looked now...my favourites

Mine too. Heavy as hell. Rubbing in a bit of Dubbin kept them waterproof.

I can't remember my first boots.

The first I liked were from BHS, and impressed me so much that I got another pair when I was old enough to have to buy my own.

Unfortunately, they stopped doing football boots - probably the first step in their long decline.

Early 90s - Reebok Pumps, some Nike Air tennis model that Andre Agassi used to wear,

Then had a load of Reebok Classics and Ellesse before then moving onto Air Force 2s which are hard to get now.
